Samoa Air Charges by the Pounds You Weigh

Ryanair floated the idea with a passenger survey in 2009 – but Samoa Air has become the world’s first airline to start charging passengers based on what they weigh, as well as their luggage. Samoa Air“The industry has this concept that all people throughout the world are the same size,” Samoa Air Chief Executive Chris Langton told Reuters. “Aeroplanes always run on weight, irrespective of seats. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the concept of the future. This is the fairest way of you travelling with your family, or yourself.”

When Samoa Air’s passengers book their flight, they are asked to input their approximate weight online to calculate their fare based on their weight and where they are flying, according to the company’s website.
