Ryanair has announced a new Belfast-Portugal route; forming part of an expanded summer 2024 route schedule from the Iberian country.
It marks Ryanair’s second route announcement at Belfast, this week, following the launch of a Belfast-Malta route.
Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said: “We are delighted to announce the largest lineup for summer 2024 in Portugal, where we continue to grow and open 14 new routes. Ryanair’s increased summer 2024 schedule will allow the airline to increase Portuguese traffic by 22% in 2024.”
Ryanair has pulled a lot of its operations from Portugal – including cutting summer routes from Faro and Porto, halving its capacity at Madeira and closing its base in Ponta Delgada. That has been in response to airport operator ANA-VINCI increasing airport fees for airlines.
Ryanair has called on Portugal’s government to fast-track open its new planned Montijo Airport in Lisbon to boost flight and fare competition.
