Two Royal Caribbean Group ships will make a significant advancement toward eco-friendly cruising this summer.
Sustainable biofuel will be used in Europe to partially power the Celebrity Apex and Symphony of the Seas of Royal Caribbean International. The sustainable cruising trial will produce vital information and research on the capabilities of the fuel and the infrastructure of the supply chain.
Celebrity Apex and Symphony of the Seas will use a biofuel blend as they set sail from Rotterdam and Barcelona, for the duration of the three-month test. The biofuel is created by mixing gasoline oil with renewable oils and fats.
Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group CEO says “We take great pride in continuing to push our industry forward in exploring innovative fuel solutions. Our hope is to advance our ships’ ability to meaningfully reduce emissions,” Liberty added.
Recently, Navigator of the Seas became the first cruise ship to sail from a US port using renewable diesel fuel.
