Ronan Flood, Managing Editor of Irish Travel Trade News, completed the Polar Circle half-marathon at Kangerlussuaq in Greenland on Saturday, 20th October, and his wife, Sarah Robson, was the second placed woman competitor in the full marathon, becoming the first Irish woman ever to complete the Polar Circle Marathon.
Ronan and Sarah ran their races in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin and Barnardos. They would like to express their sincere thanks to British Airways for sponsoring their flights to and from Copenhagen.
Ronan said: “The event can only be described as an amazing experience. It was exceptionally hard – with a 3km climb to the glacier just to start with! The snow on the ground made the polar ice cap one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, but hard to run in.”
