Rome has introduced a new visitor levy for one of its most iconic tourist attractions, the Trevi Fountain.
While visitors will still be able to view the famous fountain for free from the wider Piazza di Trevi, if they want to venture down to the edge of it, itself, they must pay an entry fee of €2 per person.
The aim of the move is to significantly lower overcrowding in the area and to raise funds for tourism attractions in the Eternal City. Rome’s city authorities claim the move could raise €6m a year for the city.
