Remembering Pedro Garcia, RIP

ITTN is saddened to hear of the passing of industry friend and colleague Pedro Garcia.

Pedro was a good friend to many in the travel business, and an emotional Richard Cullen (ex Killiney Travel) wrote this beautiful map of Pedro’s career out on the Costa Del Sol.

Pedro Garcia, a friend to the Irish travel trade for near on 50 years has sadly passed away after a short illness.

Pedro started his career as a receptionist at the La Colima Apartment Complex in Torremolinos in the early ‘70s and quickly moved on to manager of the Pepita Alay where he welcomed thousands of Irish holiday makers for many years.

However, Pedro was keen to start his own business and in the mid ‘80s he set up Viajes Euroamerica, an incoming travel agency that handled the business of tour operators and travel agents in Ireland, the UK, America and Canada.

In the ’90s he expanded and opened up offices in Madrid and Barcelona with the head office remaining in Torremolinos. In 1996 he acquired the Ecuador Apartments in Benalmadena and ran this as a highly successful business right up to his untimely death.

He was a frequent visitor to Ireland and partook for many years in the Spanish Tourist Office annual promotion for the Costa del Sol in Trinity College Dublin where many of us would have enjoyed his company. He was also involved in the Carmen Hotel in Granada which was the main hotel venue for the ITAA conference in 2012.

Pedro had a kind and welcoming heart, particularly for Irish quests, along with being a passionate professional for the travel industry.

He will be sadly missed. R.I.P.
