Heavy rainfall across Europe, in recent days and weeks, is already helping river cruise companies recover business after having to cancel sailings as the ultra-hot summer dried up rivers and diminished water levels.
Some of the continent’s largest rivers – including the Rhine and the Danube – saw their water levels drop so considerably that river cruise sailings were being cancelled, postponed or altered as a result.
The likes of Uniworld River Cruises, Viking Cruises, Avalon Waterways, Amadeus River Cruises, Scenic and Emerald have all been affected to some extent.
However, the recent level of rain has been enough to replenish rivers to a level deemed sufficient for sailings.
Avalon said it was back to normal trading and sailing levels, after having to only alter a small amount of its cruises.
Likewise, Uniworld only had to cancel 7% of its cruises and has been operating 93% of its European cruises, this summer, as planned with virtually no changes to schedules nor itineraries.
