Remember when you were little and the summer holidays seemed to last forever? Busy parents will understand that trying to occupy little ones for eight weeks is a different matter!
Working from home can make the school holidays easier to manage though, can’t it? Flexible working hours mean that you are able to fit your hours around looking after your children or grandchildren. You can take days off when it suits you, helping you to maintain a work/life balance. Technology and the ability to access wi-fi almost everywhere means that you can work from wherever you want to – you can even work outside when the glorious Irish summer makes an appearance!
ITTN talked with some Travel Counsellors to find out why they love working from home during the summer holidays:
“I can work from wherever I want to!”
Wi-fi? Check. Laptop? Check. Phone? Check. You are all set to work from wherever you choose. One of the things that Travel Counsellors love the most about having their own franchise is the flexibility to look after their businesses from wherever they are in the world.
Travel Counsellor Mandy Walsh said: “When the weather is good, there is no better feeling than simply enjoying lunch in the back garden or packing up the car and heading off for the day, knowing that I am still available on my mobile if my clients need me and that I can work that evening if a few queries or enquiries have come in. No guilt factor ever!”
“I can take time off when it suits me”
Like to start your day at the crack of dawn so that you have the afternoons free? Prefer to work in the evenings so that your partner can take over the childcare? Working as a Travel Counsellor means that you can choose your working hours, and fit your day around your family.
Travel Counsellor Sarah McCarthy said: “Being a TC has endless benefits for my family. I have never ever missed a school play, sporting event, concert, etc. If they are ill I am there. I am always there and as a mother this is so important. My children are incredibly lucky and so am I.”
Travel Counsellor Lisa Nahedh added: “I don’t have to beg for time off to go on holiday with other colleagues or book time off months in advance to get the time I need.”
“I can set up my office in the sunshine”
The Irish sun might not have his hat on that often during the summer holidays. When he does though, Travel Counsellors love nothing more than working outside in the sunshine.
Travel Counsellor Mary Foyle said: “I am having the most fabulous summer here in Ireland working from my mobile home in Kerry. I go walking each day, practicing for the Camino that I will be walking in October.”
“I can balance work with my personal life”
We all know that it is important to maintain a healthy work/life balance, but it can be difficult to achieve, can’t it? Working as a Travel Counsellor means that you can choose when you work and when you take time off.
Travel Counsellor Ian Walsh said: “The flexibility of being a self-employed Travel Counsellor cannot be matched. I can plan my work around my life rather than my life around my work.”
Travel Counsellor Fidelma Brady added: “Being a Travel Counsellor means that I can spend quality time with my children and ensure that they have a childhood to remember during these important younger years. We can take day trips out or have a morning in the park, because I am flexible in my hours to be able to do this.”
