Qatar Airways Strengthens Global Network with Dublin Service Expansion and Canberra Resumption

Qatar Airways has reinforced its position as a leading global carrier with two major developments this winter: the launch of a third daily service from Dublin Airport to Doha, bringing the total to 17 weekly flights, and the resumption of daily flights to Canberra, Australia’s capital, via Melbourne. Together, these enhancements highlight the airline’s commitment to expanding connectivity and offering travellers greater choice across its worldwide network of more than 170 destinations.

Dublin Gains Extra Service to Doha

Irish travellers now enjoy unprecedented convenience with Qatar Airways’ expanded schedule from Dublin. The third daily service strengthens Dublin’s role as a European gateway, offering seamless connections through Doha’s award‑winning Hamad International Airport to destinations across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

The timing of the expansion is particularly significant for Ireland’s travel trade, as demand for long‑haul travel continues to grow. With enhanced access to cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Shanghai, and Singapore, the additional Dublin service ensures smoother onward journeys and more flexible options for both leisure and corporate passengers.

Qatar Airways, crowned World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2025 for a record ninth time, has already introduced nearly 3,000 additional flights globally this year. The Dublin expansion is part of this broader strategy, designed to anticipate market trends and respond to evolving travel demands.

Canberra Welcomes Qatar Airways Back

On 2 December 2025, Qatar Airways’ resumption flight to Canberra touched down, officially marking the return of its daily service to the Australian capital. Operated by a Boeing 777 via Melbourne, the route reconnects Canberra with the airline’s global network, offering travellers in the ACT and surrounding regions enhanced access, greater competition, and expanded travel options.

The resumption means Qatar Airways now serves six key Australian cities: Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra. This comprehensive network underscores the airline’s commitment to Australia and provides Irish travellers with more options when planning journeys to the Pacific region.

Premium and Economy Enhancements

Passengers flying from Canberra will experience Qatar Airways’ renowned inflight service, including complimentary high‑speed Starlink Wi‑Fi – a feature unique to Qatar Airways flights to and from Canberra. The airline is the first globally to equip over 100 widebody aircraft with Starlink, offering free gate‑to‑gate connectivity at speeds of up to 500 Mbps.

For those travelling in Qsuite Business Class, the journey is elevated with fully lie‑flat beds, sliding privacy doors, and on‑demand à la carte dining. The menu includes exclusive creations by award‑winning Australian chef Ross Lusted, ensuring a distinctive culinary experience at 30,000 feet.

Seamless Domestic Connections in Australia

Through its strategic partnership with Virgin Australia, Qatar Airways passengers arriving in Canberra can connect effortlessly to major domestic destinations including Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Melbourne. This collaboration enhances convenience and flexibility, making it easier for Irish travellers to explore Australia beyond the capital.

Strategic Impact for Ireland

For Ireland’s travel trade, the dual developments of Dublin’s expanded service and Canberra’s resumption represent significant opportunities. The third daily Dublin–Doha flight strengthens Ireland’s connectivity to Asia and Australia, while the Canberra service provides Irish travellers with direct access to Australia’s political and cultural heart.

These enhancements also support Ireland’s tourism and business sectors by facilitating smoother travel for inbound visitors and outbound Irish passengers alike. With Doha as a central hub, Dublin is now better positioned within Qatar Airways’ global network, offering Irish travellers unparalleled access to emerging markets and established destinations.

Looking Ahead

Qatar Airways’ continued investment in Ireland and Australia reflects its broader vision of connecting people and places with excellence. The airline’s expansion in Dublin and Canberra demonstrates its ability to anticipate demand, enhance passenger experience, and strengthen global ties.

For Irish travellers, the message is clear: whether heading to Asia, Africa, or Australia, Qatar Airways offers more choice, greater convenience, and a premium journey that begins at Dublin Airport.
