As is its custom, Qatar Airways celebrated the launch of a new route – this time Dublin-Doha – with a gala dinner and ‘local’ entertainment from Affinity, Riverdance, and Ronan Keating.
Over 230 people attended the glitzy event in the InterContinental Hotel, Dublin, which was ably MC’ed by Amanda Byram.
Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive, Qatar Airways Group, pointed out that the airline was also celebrating its 20th anniversary, that its aircraft fleet has an average age of five years, and that its cabin crew has an average age of 26 years – “whereas you know you are only served by grandmothers on crap American carriers”.
Referring to the current ‘blockade’ of Qatar by four Saudi Arabia-led countries, he asserted that: “We will not bend to these four bullies and will stand up even higher.”
