Ponant Releases Innovative Zero-Emission Cruise Ship Design

The pioneering concept will use six groundbreaking technologies. It is expected to be operational by 2030.

It would comprise over 1,000m2 of photovoltaic panels, with solar eco-designed devices integrated into the structures and sails. The sail power system and hull would provide an average of 50% of the propulsion energy. It will also house on-board carbon capture technology.

The ‘Swap2Zero’ ship will have around 100 staterooms

CEO Hervé Gastinel said “By 2030, our future ship aims to have zero greenhouse gas emissions when sailing, maneuvering, in port or at anchor,”

“Renewable energy supplied by the wind and sun will be combined with low-carbon non-fossil energy associated with fuel cells.”

“We want to offer a new mode of navigation and actively contribute to decarbonisation of the maritime sector.”
