Petition Launched to Reopen Galway Airport for Commercial Flights

A petition calling for the reopening of Galway Airport has been officially opened, according to a report by the Flying In Ireland news service.

Since 2015, the airport has been used by the Galway Flying Club. It has also been used, in recent years, for the Galway Summer Sessions annual concert series event.

It hasn’t run commercial flights since Aer Arann stopped operating there in 2011 and the airport lost its subsidised routes.

Earlier this year, RTÉ reported that local authorities were looking for expressions of interest for the redevelopment of the 118-acre site, but there now seems to be local support to return the site to its former glory.
