The spectre of potential flight disruption for passengers travelling to and from London, this summer, has returned with strike action planned for Gatwick Airport.
Nearly 1,000 workers at Gatwick – including baggage handlers and check-in staff – are planning 8 days of strike action due to begin before the end of July.
The action is being taken to challenge pay conditions.
Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair fly between Ireland and Gatwick.
It comes after a summer of discontent at Heathrow Airport has been avoided, with management there recently agreeing a new pay and working conditions deal with staff.
The Unite trade union – which recently successfully won a pay rise for its members at Heathrow – said the Gatwick strikes will inevitably cause significant flight disruption, through delays and cancellations.
The first 4-day set of strikes are, currently, planned for Friday July 28 to Tuesday August 1; with the second tranche scheduled for August 4-8.
