Overseas Trips Increased by 3.1 Per Cent in June – August 2013

The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period June – August 2013 increased by 3.1% to 2,139,200, according to statistics released on Thursday 26th September by the Central Statistics Office. This compares with an increase of 1.5% for the same period last year and with a decrease of -6.7% in 2011. CSO Overseas Trips August 2013

For the January – August period, overseas trips by Irish residents increased by 32,300 or 0.7% to 4,403,900, compared with a decrease of -1.1% for the same period last year and with a decrease of -4.9% in 2011.

In June – August 2013 the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 6.7% to 2,264,800, an overall increase of 142,000 compared to the same period 12 months earlier.

Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 19.9% to 437,900. Trips by residents of European countries other than Britain (Other Europe) increased by 0.9% to 794,700, while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 17.6% to 152,700. Trips by residents of Britain increased by 4.7% to 879,500.

The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 6.5% for the period January – August 2013 when compared with the same period in 2012.
