Irish residents made 6.3 million overseas trips in 2011, a decrease of 4.2% over 2010, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office. A total of 6.5 million trips were made to Ireland, up from 6.0 million in 2010.
The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents in the period October – December 2011 decreased by 0.9% to 1,311,000.
Trips to Ireland in the last quarter decreased by 3.2% to 1,369,700, an overall decrease of 44,600 compared to the same period 12 months earlier.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland decreased by 12.5% to 176,200, while trips by residents of Other Areas decreased by 5.8% to 73,600. Visitors from European Countries other than Britain decreased by 2.6% to 464,700, while visitors from Britain decreased by 0.4% to 655,200.
