Over 60% of Parents Happy to Pull Kids Out of School to Save on Holiday Costs

Almost two-thirds of Irish parents would consider taking their children out of school if it meant saving on holiday prices, a new survey shows.

Overall, prices for holidays rose by 4% – on an annual basis – in 2024.

The latest Travel Sentiment Survey, by online travel specialist Click&Go Holidays, shows that 61% of parents are in favour of pulling kids out of school in order to lower their holiday costs.

The Travel Sentiment Survey also gave further insight into the holiday planning habits of respondents. Over a quarter (29%) of those surveyed have already booked their holidays for 2025. A slightly larger percentage, 31%, said they were instead waiting for the January sale to book their trip for this year. January is traditionally the single busiest month for holiday bookings. Overall, a large majority (85%) said that by December 31, 2024, they had already started planning or had booked their holidays for 2025.

Paul Hackett, CEO of Click&Go said: “The outlook for holiday bookings for 2025 looks good. The market is robust, the passenger CAP at Dublin Airport is paused and prices seem relatively stable. Consumers are value-conscious; that is behind the growth in cruise holidays and also explains why a majority of parents are happy to take their children out of school for the family holiday.”
