Irish visitors to the Big Apple last year totalled some 275,000, comprising 225,000 from the Republic of Ireland and 50,000 from Northern Ireland. This was announced at the annual breakfast for the Irish travel trade hosted in Dublin by NYC & Company and members from New York’s top attractions and hotels.

John Donohue, NYC & Company’s Irish representative, said: “I am delighted to welcome the New York City locals to Ireland and thank them for the wealth of product knowledge that they share with us. Irish people are feeling the economic squeeze right now – and now more than ever we are looking for value for money.

“With the combination of amazing savings in the shops, a reasonable exchange rate against the dollar, and our fondness for all things New York City, we expect similar numbers of Irish travellers to New York in 2011 to those of 2010.”

The hotel and attraction representatives visiting Ireland are from the Broadway Collection, Macy’s, the London NYC, Marriott and Renaissance Hotels, Disney Theatrical, Empire State Building Observatory, Hampton Luxury Liner, InterContinental Hotels, NBC Studio Tour, the Fitzpatrick Hotel Group, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Setai Fifth Avenue.
