New Operator, Major Travel, Celebrates 50 Years & Invites Irish Agents To Join Virtual Roadshow

Major Travel, a pioneer in the travel industry, proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary with an unforgettable event that marked half a century of unwavering commitment to supporting travel agents and partners. Established in 1974 by Mark Widdowson, the company has evolved into a leader in travel technology and agent services, empowering agents with innovative tools and unrivalled support.

The 50th-anniversary celebration brought together 300 guests for a day filled with networking, face-to-face interactions, and engaging presentations. Highlighting Major Travel’s long-standing dedication to its partners, the event featured over 20 enticing prizes, including a luxury 7-night holiday in the Caribbean, a Safari stay, £1,000 holiday credit, and complimentary stays in sought-after destinations like Cape Town, Dubai, the Maldives, and Ras Al Khaimah. Guests were also delighted by an indulgent chocolate fountain and a specially crafted 50th anniversary cake, adding a touch of sweetness to the day’s celebrations.

2024 has been a significant year for Major Travel as it commenced operations in Ireland, marked by its launch during the ITAA conference in Spain, attendance at the Travel Centres Conference last weekend, and the upcoming Worldchoice Conference on 23rd November. This expansion reflects Major Travel’s mission to extend its trusted support and technological advancements to agents across borders. To celebrate this milestone and strengthen relationships, Major Travel is inviting the Irish agent community to join its upcoming Virtual Roadshow, reinforcing the company’s dedication to supporting agents with training and development opportunities.

In keeping with its reputation for innovation, Major Travel used the anniversary event to introduce new initiatives such as “Major 4 Me,” a program offering agents exclusive, discounted personal travel rates, and a new AI assistant designed to bolster agent support.

The celebration forms part of a larger initiative to engage and reward agents:

  1. Around the World in 50 Days with Major Travel (14th October – 2nd December): A social media campaign spotlighting different destinations daily, coupled with special offers, prizes, and training opportunities.
  2. Major Travel – Here for the Long Haul Event: The celebratory event held last Friday, featuring a trade show and supplier-led sessions, where “Major 4 Me” was unveiled.
  3. Virtual Roadshow (19th November and 2nd–6th December): An opportunity for agents—including the Irish agent community—to participate in over 30 supplier-led sessions and win exciting prizes, such as free stays at Domes, Kariega lodges, Beyond hotels to name a few as well as vouchers, gift sets, and tickets.
