Norwegian Air Shuttle is to establish a new hub at London Gatwick in spring 2013 and will establish another at Alicante, Spain. Norwegian will offer flights to 14 Mediterranean destinations and to the Nordic region from London.
Norwegian will commence operations at London Gatwick with three Boeing 737-800s and increase to four aircraft by the end of the year. Norwegian already has more than 100 weekly departures between the Nordic region and London.
The Alicante base will be in addition to already established bases at Malaga and Las Palmas.
Bjørn Kjos, Chief Executive, said: “The new base in England will enable Norwegian to better meet the head-on competition from Asian and European carriers in the long-haul market.” A new base for the company’s subsidiary for long-haul flights is being established in Bangkok.
The Mediterranean routes from London Gatwick will be to Alicante, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Faro, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Malaga, Marseille, Nice, Palma, Rome, Split, Tenerife and Tromso.
