New AWTE Committee Hosts First Event

AWTE Ireland (Association of Women Travel Executives) were delighted to welcome the women of the Irish Travel Industry on the roof top terrace of Hyde in Dublin City last night.

The new committee is made up of Ciara Foley, Katrina McMullen, Jan Lyons, Allie Sheehan, Annette McCann, Josie Carrigy, Roisin Carbery, Susan Maxwell, Donna Kenny, Ann-Marie Durkin, and Valerie Murphy. The committee hosted a great event showcasing all the benefits that AWTE can offer while enjoying some fantastic food and refereshments.

Ciara Foley (Chair Person) did a short presentation about AWTE, which is all about promoting and developing the careers of women in the travel industry in Ireland.

She reiterated how important it is that women invest in themselves both personally and professionally so they can develop their own brand. She explained that AWTE can help women value themselves in all areas of their lives whilst networking and building confidence in others around them.

The committee are really encouraging all women to join up so they can benefit from all the activities planned. I personally love been involved in the AWTE committee and think everyone can benefit in some way.

Some of the events highlighted for the year ahead are:

  • Stress Management and Resilience
  • Branding – Personal and Professional
  • Time Management and Productivity
  • Sound Bath – a meditative experience bathed in sound waves.
  • Networking
  • Learn to play Golf with lunch & prosecco.
  • Return of The Interview Series and lunchtime sessions
  • Fashion & Style evening – how to dress for work and play.
  • Christmas Lunch 1st December 2023
  • IWD 2024

Clare Dunne, Travel Broker recently announced as CEO of ITAA, was in attendance. She was congratulated on her new role by the committee who said how proud they were to see “one of their own” from AWTE chosen for the prestigious role. Clare explained that the AWTE had done so much for her own skillset and how she grew in confidence by being with her AWTE counterparts since co-founding it in 2017.

The three “E’s” of AWTE are Educate, Encourage and Educate. A great motto for all women in travel!

Allie Sheehan
I have worked in the travel industry for seven years, from working in American Holidays and The Travel Corporation I have a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of travel. Before joining ITTN I worked for Facebook which gave me the inside knowledge of the wonderful world of social media. I have a BSc in Event Management and am also a qualified beauty therapist (which definitely comes in handy in this business). Recently I joined the AWTE Ireland committee and I am enjoying working with and connecting with the network of women in travel.
