A quarter of Irish people buy the cheapest travel insurance they can find, according to figures released by Multitrip.com.
The travel insurance provider has released figures which were drawn from a survey of 1,000 holidaymakers carried out on its behalf by Opinium.

The survey also found that only 22% check whether the policy cancellation limit would cover the cost of the holiday, and surprisingly as little as 26% check whether the luggage cover is sufficient to cover them if their bags and contents were lost or damaged.
Futhermore, 31% check to ensure their policy includes cover for travel disruption. Only 14% check it provides a minimum of €2 million medical cover.
Jason Whelan – MD of Multitrip.com said: “It’s really important to do your research when buying travel insurance to make sure that you put in place the right cover for you or your family. Ask yourself if the baggage and cancellation cover is enough for what you need and if you’re concerned about strikes and delays, include Travel Disruption cover in your policy for additional peace of mind.”

He continued: “It’s also worth checking if your travel insurance includes access to an online GP. This survey found that only 13% of respondents check to see if their policy includes access to a virtual doctor. All Multitrip.com policies include free video call access to doctors anytime, anywhere, so you don’t need to worry about finding a local GP. If you or someone travelling with you needs medication, our doctors can provide prescriptions, where available.’’
Multitrip.com offers three levels of protection, Essential, Premier, and Premier Plus. Multitrip.com policies automatically provide cover for over sixty sports & activities, such as cycling, hiking, running, water skiing and scuba diving (terms, conditions and exclusions apply). Other activities can be added with an additional premium. Holidaymakers can add extra cover for Travel Disruption, Gadgets, or Winter Sports to a travel insurance policy to provide coverage for more specific travel needs, including 24/7 access to a virtual GP.
