More than 50% of hotels across France are already booked out ahead of this year’s Olympic Games in Paris, according to research by travel technology firm Amadeus.
What’s more, the daily rates for rooms that are still available are rising by the day, Amadeus said.
This year’s Summer Olympics run from July 26 to August 11 and the hotel demand is already higher than in previous years.
Amadeus said: “If you’re planning to visit Paris this summer, make sure to book in advance, as occupancy rates are already more than half full for the weeks surrounding the Olympic games. Additionally, when looking at booking lead times in Paris, Amadeus data shows that 85% of bookings are being made within 0-90 days ahead of stay, and 43% of bookings are currently being made in Paris within 0-14 days ahead of stay. If these trends continue as we move closer to the event, bookings could rise even further.”
The research found that a lot of rooms have been swallowed up by global group bookings, with sports teams and international media making a large proportion of the bookings.
Furthermore, average daily hotel rates in France are currently more than 20% ahead of the same time last year.
And, it’s not just Paris which is seeing the spike. According to Amadeus; Lille, Marseilles and Lyon are seeing far more visitors this year – directly due to Olympic bookings.
