Lufthansa Irish traffic grew by 13% in 2015 – that was the good news from Christian Schindler on a flying visit to Dublin to brief the Irish media on the latest news from the German airline.
He also revealed that the Lufthansa Group will operate a new route, commencing in summer 2016, from Belfast City Airport to Brussels. The service will be operated by Brussels Airlines using an Avro 100 aircraft.
The new Premium Economy product has been a huge success and is now fitted on all the Lufthansa aircraft in the long-haul fleet.
The Lufthansa Group of airlines achieved another passenger record for Dublin in 2015. Almost 550,000 people travelled to and from Ireland – an increase of 13.2% on 2014.
The figures also show that more than half of the passengers leaving Dublin on airlines in the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa and Swiss) take advantage of the quick and easy onward connections to the airline’s worldwide network through their Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich hubs.
Schindler, Lufthansa’s Regional Director UK, Ireland & Iceland, said: “Once again Dublin has proved to be a key market within the Lufthansa network. Despite a challenging last quarter of the year the demand for our services has continued to grow, proving once again that discerning travellers appreciate the way Lufthansa continues to respond to the challenges of the travel market.
“Our passengers know that when they book with the Lufthansa Group they are guaranteed to receive our high quality onboard services. The Lufthansa Group recently introduced a new price concept for flights in Europe offering Economy Class fare options ‘Light’, ‘Classic’ and ‘Flex’, allowing passengers to select and only pay for the services they want. In addition, the large number of Dublin passengers who take onward connections have the option to take advantage of our high-quality Premium Economy product on long-haul services. We will continue to offer our passengers the shortest possible onward connection times to our worldwide network through our hubs at Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich.”
In 2015 the most popular onward destinations for Lufthansa’s Dublin travellers included Moscow, Sofia, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Belgrade, Tokyo, Athens and Kiev.
