London City Airport is close to reaching the 1 million passenger milestone for the summer season, keeping it on course to reach three million customers for the entire year.
Although smaller than many, London City has avoided travel chaos by remaining fully staffed and not suffering any time delays for passengers.
The airport saw 640,000 passengers pass through it during June and July, with another 300,000 or so expected to flow through the airport this month.
London City Airport chief executive Robert Sinclair said: “We have made a conscious effort with our airlines to attract more leisure routes and passengers this summer and the fact we could reach close to 1 million passengers for the period is testament to the resilience.”
The busiest routes out of London City remain Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Zurich – with Ibiza the strongest summer leisure route; followed by Florence, Palma, Nice and Malaga.
