Latest NYC Storm Recovery Update

NYC & Company issued the following Storm Recovery Update at 7.00pm last Thursday:

We are pleased to report that the recovery effort following Hurricane Sandy continues to move forward. Most businesses, especially those in the main tourist zones, including Lower Manhattan, have resumed operations. The majority of our hotels, restaurants, theatres and cultural institutions are open, the power system is close to fully restored, and the subways are almost all back online.

Below are the most recent updates. More detailed information regarding the status of individual services and businesses is available at nycgo.com and on nyc.gov.

Transportation:

• Most subway lines are running and additional service continues to be restored rapidly. A modified subway recovery map and an update on current subway, Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North service can be accessed at mta.info.
• The Queens Midtown Tunnel is open for BUSES ONLY (Manhattan-bound 6-10am and Queens-bound 3-7pm). The tunnel will be closed to all traffic at all other times.
• The Holland Tunnel is OPEN to traffic in both directions.
• The Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn-Battery) Tunnel remains closed during water remediation efforts.

Hotels:

• Most New York City hotels are open. Before travelling, visitors are advised to reconfirm their hotel reservations directly with the property, regardless of location.
• The hotels along West 57^th Street that were temporarily closed due to a construction incident have reopened (Le Parker Meridien, West 57^th Street by Club Hilton and Salisbury Hotel).
• Some hotels in Lower Manhattan remain closed, but many of those are expected to reopen shortly, including The Ritz-Carlton, Battery Park; the New York Marriott Downtown; W New York – Downtown; DoubleTree by Hilton New York City – Financial District and Andaz Wall Street. • The Wyndham Garden Long Island City/Manhattan View in Queens will remain closed for the next several weeks.

Cruise Ship Terminals:

• The Manhattan Cruise Terminal has reopened but the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal remains closed. Please continue to check nycruise.com and social media channels for updates on service, and make sure to contact your cruise line to confirm your itinerary before arriving for any cruise you may have scheduled.

Sites and Attractions:

• Most major sites and attractions throughout the City are open. Retail shops and restaurants are open as well.
• Many of the venues in Lower Manhattan have recently re-opened, including the ZEPHYR, New York Water Taxi, Museum of American Finance, Museum of Jewish Heritage, Poets House and The Anne Frank Centre. Many shops and restaurants, including all of those along Stone Street are open as well.
• The 9/11 Memorial has reopened under the modified daily hours of 10am-4pm. Previously reserved passes for dates and times affected by closures will be honoured during temporary operations. New passes will temporarily be unavailable online or at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site. Visitors will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis at our entry.
• The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island remain closed but Statue Cruises is offering one-hour harbour cruises departing from Battery Park. If you have tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, they will honour those tickets on the harbour tour.
• The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will remain closed for the next several weeks.
