Kathmandu in Nepal is proving a popular destination, with Turkish Airlines making the Nepalese capital its 238th destination from Istanbul and Etihad Airways increasing flights from Abu Dhabi to double daily from 1st November 2013.
Turkish Airlines, ranked the ‘Best Airline in Europe’ in the Skytrax awards for the third consecutive year, added Kathmandu to its network on 1st September 2013, making Nepal the airline’s 104th country and Kathmandu the 29th destination served in the Far East.
Roundtrip flights between Istanbul and Kathmandu are operating four times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from Istanbul, and Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Kathmandu.
Introductory round trip fares are available from Istanbul to Kathmandu starting at €406 including taxes and fees. Additionally, for the first six months of operation there is a special offer for Miles&Smiles members, with a 25% reduction in the miles needed to redeem either award tickets or upgrades.
Etihad Airways
Meanwhile, Etihad Airways will increase its Abu Dhabi – Kathmandu service from seven flights per week to a double daily schedule from 1st November 2013.
The new services will be operated by A320 aircraft fitted with 16 Pearl Business Class seats and 120 Economy Class seats.
“The addition of the new flights will further strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Nepal and the UAE and will lead to continued strong growth in traffic flows between Kathmandu, Abu Dhabi and beyond to many key destinations across our global network,” said Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ Chief Strategy and Planning Officer.
Since the start of flights to Kathmandu in 2007, Etihad Airways has carried more than 620,000 passengers on this route.
