Japan has reported a doubling in tourist visitors for November, with more than 934,000 people entering the country compared to just under 499,000 in October.
The country was one of the slowest economies to reopen following the pandemic shutdown and only fully reopened for tourist travel in early October of this year.
Japan’s two main airlines Japan Airlines and ANA reported up to 5 times more bookings for Christmas and New Year than previously.
The bulk of Japan’s latest visitors have come from South Korea, Taiwan, but also from the US.
Despite the tourism recovery – which will help Japan’s recently faltering economy – the country’s national hotels association has warned of serious staff shortages.
