ITAA Annual Conference Kicks Off in Almería with Call to Action

The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) has kicked off its annual conference, in Almería in southern Spain, with a message of unity, support and resilience for industry members.

In her opening address, ITAA President Angela Walsh said: “Our industry is at a pivotal moment. We all know the pressures we face—intense competition from online platforms, the push from suppliers to book direct, and the ever-increasing expectations of our clients. Adding to this, the geopolitical tensions, including the potential escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, create an environment where uncertainty reigns.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and to question our relevance in a world that’s changing faster than ever before. But this is exactly why we’re here today, and why the theme of this conference—RISE—is so critical. We must remain RELEVANT, we must be INNOVATIVE, we must be STRONG, and we must be ESSENTIAL.”

RISE is not just a theme; it’s a call to action. It’s a blueprint for how we, as travel agents, can not only survive but thrive in this dynamic environment,” Ms Walsh told delegates.

Ms Walsh told delegates that the ITAA is committed to supporting its members and that the Irish travel agent sector must remain united.

As your President, I fully support the direction our CEO is taking the ITAA. Together, we are committed to providing you with the tools, resources, and support to rise to these challenges. This year, we’re not just talking about change—we’re driving it. Through quarterly workshops, mentorship programmes, and continuous engagement, we will ensure that the theme of RISE is not just something we discuss today but a principle we live by every day.

“As we embark on this journey together, remember that we are stronger as a united community. The ITAA is here to support you, to champion your successes, and to ensure that together, we rise above the challenges ahead.

“Thank you for your dedication, passion, and commitment to this incredible industry. Let’s make this a year where we don’t just meet expectations—we exceed them. So now, I ask each of you to stand with me, and together, let’s RISE to the occasion.”

Also addressing the opening day of the conference, Aranzazu Martín Moya, Regional Government Councellor Andalucia

“Andalucía is always a safe bet, which beats all expectations: it has proved to be a destination which visitors fall in love with, as it offers unique and unrepeatable experiences. We are convinced you will learn of a new brand destination for you: Almería,” she said.

Ms Martín Moya added: “During these journeys you will discover our wonderful Natural Park, Cabo de Gata – Nijar, carrying out activities of agro tourism with Clisol Company, and to experience our greenhouses, that are the growth engine of our province and a development example to international level. Here in Almería we know how to take advantage of every drop of water and that allows us to be the pantry of Europe, even though, as you can see, rain is the only visitor that we do not have on this land.”

Fernando Giménez, Vice President of the Almeria Provincial Council, Almeria Tourism Board, said: “Travel agents undoubtedly become the main ambassadors of any destination and, therefore, they are our most important allies in attracting visitors and allowing them to enjoy the sensations and emotions they will find on the ‘Costa de Almería’.”
