Istanbul was the busiest city break route out of London Stansted in August, taking over from Dublin which held the title for a number of months previously.
Dublin, Istanbul, Edinburgh and Palma de Mallorca are Stansted’s busiest city break flight destinations, but Dublin has been the top of that list for some time – only to be pipped by Istanbul in the latest stats.

Overall, London Stansted rounded off its busiest ever summer with a record August in which it welcomed nearly 3.1 million passengers.
That beat the previous record set in August 2024 by 0.6% and took the 12-month total to 29.77 million, an increase of 2.4% on the previous year.
August also saw Stansted record the busiest day of the year so far as more than 104,000 passengers passed through the terminal on 24 August.
The airport recorded 11 days in total where passenger numbers topped 100,000.

Gareth Powell, London Stansted’s Managing Director, said: “The summer season at London Stansted has been busier than ever before as more and more people took advantage of the excellent choice, value and operational stability we are able to offer our passengers.
“August was our busiest single month ever, with 11 days during the month seeing us welcome more than 100,000 passengers, so I’m really proud that thanks to the hard work and commitment of all the teams across the airport we were consistently able to deliver the reliable and efficient operational experience we know our passengers really value.
“As we continue to grow our route network and give our passengers even more choice, and progress our £1.2bn investment programme, including significantly increasing the size of the terminal building, we will remain laser focused on doing all we can to ensure every passenger has the best start possible to their journey when choosing to fly from London Stansted.”
