Irish visitor overnights in Germany increased by 22.3% in 2014 up to 385,423, with visitor numbers increasing by 25.7% to 170,338, while for the year to February 2015 Irish overnights have increased by 34.1%.
Klaus Lohmann, Director UK & Ireland, German National Tourist Board, told Irish Travel Trade News at this week’s GTM Germany Travel Mart in Erfurt that the GNTB has set new targets for 2030 that include 500,000 overnights by Irish visitors.
“The Irish market is delivering significant increases for many reasons. Irish people are now realising how affordable holidays and city breaks are in Germany – and they love our Christmas markets, there are more flight connections and holidays in Germany are now easier to book, we offer a great variety of culture, customs and traditions as well as wonderful nature and sustainable travel, Germany is one of the most barrier-free destinations in the world, and Germans love visiting Ireland – and help to spread the word about the many attractions of Germany.”
