The 70.2 million figure adds an extra three million overnight stays compared with the same time period in 2013 – an increase of 4.6%.

“Based on the numbers available right now, we have seen record numbers for the fifth time in a row in 2014, thanks to the dynamic development of the incoming tourism,” said Petra Hedorfer, Chief Executive, German National Tourist Board. “This growth puts the German incoming tourism ahead of the average European destination, which, according to the latest numbers from the UNWTO, saw an increase in 2014 arrivals of 3.9%.”

All Top 10 incoming markets for Destination Germany saw more overnight stays to the end of November 2014, than for the same time period in 2013. Poland, which in Q3 joined the club of Top 10 incoming markets, solidified its position with a growth rate of 11% for a total of 2.3 million overnight stays. Above average growth was also recorded for Switzerland (6.5% growth), Austria (5.4%) and Denmark (5.5%).
