Iberia Pilots Commence 30 Days of Strike Action

Up to 150 Iberia flights within Spain and to Europe and Latin America were grounded yesterday as pilots began their plan to strike for 30 days – every Monday and Friday until July – in protest against the launch of low-cost carrier Iberia Express.

Iberia is taking the matter to the Spanish High Court in an attempt to minimise disruption and claims each day of strike action will cost the airline €3 million.

Pilots union SEPLA claims the launch of Iberia Express threatens jobs and conditions but International Airlines Group-owned Iberia says the move is essential to increase profitability.
