Finally, did you know that Germany is also a great country for horses? Racecourses are found in many cities (Berlin, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich) but also in elegant spa resorts such as Baden-Baden.

Germany’s only Courtly Riding School with museum, historic stables and regular demonstrations is at Bückeburg Castle west of Hannover: www.hofreitschule.de. Not far away are the German Horse Museum at Verden (www.deutsches-pferdemuseum.de) and Lower Saxony’s State Stud (www.landgestuetcelle.de) in Celle where regular stallion parades and dressage meetings are held.

In the Münster area, the annual round-up of the wild horses of Dülmen is another spectacle for the horse-loving visitor (www.duelmen.de).
