Holiday travel remains a spending priority for Irish consumers, according to a new survey.
The survey – from travel insurance specialist Multitrip.com – also shows that 54% of Irish consumers will prioritise holidays over other luxuries, even if budgets are tight.
Overall, the survey shows that 50% of Irish adults view holidays as a top priority and will be the last thing that they cut back on; while 68% said they will continue to take as many holidays in 2024 as they usually do.
More than half of respondents – 52%, to be precise – said they are actually spending more on holidays than they did before Covid.
“We love our holidays here in Ireland. To protect your holiday investment, travel insurance is an absolute must. Travelling without insurance could leave you paying a hefty bill if something were to go wrong. With medical costs rising globally, travel insurance is that added layer of peace of mind that all travellers need,” said Jason Whelan of Multitrip.com.
“If you wait until closer to departure to arrange your travel insurance, you run the risk of something happening that could lead you to cancel and lose out on the cost of your trip. That’s why we always urge holidaymakers to take out travel insurance as soon as they book their flight or holiday,” he added.
Meanwhile, a significant proportion – almost half (46%) – said they are rethinking a summer holiday to avoid the extreme heat of Europe in July and August, which will also save money.
