Heathrow Shutdown: No Inbound or Outbound Flights Before Midnight

Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5A, arrivals concourse, September 2018

London’s Heathrow Airport has said it will see no inbound or outbound flights before at least midnight/tomorrow morning.

It comes after over 1,350 flights were cancelled at the airport – one of Europe’s busiest, and the UK’s biggest – being diverted elsewhere, or cancelled, following a major fire at an energy plant used to power the area.

Heathrow strikes pay deal

Around 70 Irish flights were affected and thousands of Irish passengers’ travel plans compromised.

Many airlines are busy, today, re-routing planned Heathrow flights. Ryanair – which doesn’t serve Heathrow, but flies to and from three other London airports (Stansted, Gatwick and Luton) – has added 8 ‘rescue’ flights from London Stansted. Shannon Airport is also being used as a major flight diversion destination.
