Heathrow Runways Closed as BA762 Makes Emergency Landing

London Heathrow Airport is warning of flight delays throughout the day following an incident involving a British Airways aircraft. Both runways were closed earlier today after BA flight BA762 from London Heathrow to Oslo was forced to return back to Heathrow shortly after take-off due to a technical fault. London Heathrow Logo

Heathrow’s southern runway has now re-opened and the airport said it was working with emergency teams to get the northern runway open as quickly as possible. Heathrow Airport has tweeted: “The temporary closure is likely to result in a number of cancelled flights throughout the day and passengers are advised to check the flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport.”

The Airbus A319 aircraft was carrying 75 passengers. “The aircraft landed safely and emergency slides were deployed and we are currently caring for our customers,” said BA. “Emergency services attended the aircraft. We will be carrying out a full investigation into the incident.”

There is speculation that the aircraft ran into a flock of birds, causing damage to its right engine.
