Grand Canyon National Park Partially Reopens for Overnight Stays

The Arizona Office of Tourism has announced the reopening of hotels on the Grand Canyon National Park’s Southern Rim.

The park has been temporarily closed to overnight hotel stays, since late July, due to necessary water supply improvement works, following a number of breaks in the 12.5 mile long Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies water from the canyon for use in the park.

The park has remained open, throughout the water restrictions, for camping and day use.

Water restrictions in the South Rim area have also been downgraded to Stage 3 level. This transition to Stage 3 is a step toward normalising park operations while ensuring the sustainable management of water resources.

Visitors are being advised to limit shower time to 5 minutes or less, flush toilets selectively and to wash laundry with full loads. There are also fire restrictions in place, which currently prohibit all wood burning and charcoal fires and campfires.
