The Government is hopeful that a direct flight connection between Ireland and India can be operational within the next two years.
Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers has met with representatives of Air India and IndiGo while on his trade mission to India, this week.

He said such a flight service would be of huge benefit to Ireland.
“The development of a direct Ireland to India airline route would expand business opportunities as well supporting better connectivity for the approximate 100,000 people of Indian origin living in Ireland while also creating huge tourism potential,” he said.
Minister Chambers is on a trade mission along with Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland; the first such Irish mission since the recently agreed EU-India free trade agreement.
Earlier this week, Lufthansa Group pointed to the trade deal as background for its newly expanded strategic partnership with Air India – Lufthansa Group and Air India Significantly Expand Strategic Partnership | ittn.ie.
