Air travel in and out of Germany has been all but cancelled today, as a 24 hour strike over workers’ conditions and pay levels has halted business at most of the country’s airports.

The one-day strike – called by trade union Verdi last Friday – directly affects flights in and out of 13 German airports, including Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf.

In Frankfurt, alone, more than 1,000 of the scheduled 1,116 inbound and outbound flights have been cancelled. In total, across Germany, it has been estimated that more than 500,000 – half a million – passengers will suffer some form of disruption, with that probably being in the form of full cancellations.
