G’day world: international tourists return to Australia as borders open

After nearly two years, Australia has reopened its borders to international visitors.

It was March 2020 when the country first imposed some of the world’s strictest travel restrictions due to Covid-19.

“The wait is over” , said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison during a press conference ahead of the reopening.

“The tourists are coming back and my message to them is, to tourists all around the world, pack your bags, come and have one of the greatest experiences you could ever imagine – the experience you’ve been waiting for.”, he added.

The first flight will arrive at Sydney Airport from Los Angeles at 6am, followed by arrivals from Tokyo, Vancouver and Singapore.

Visitors must be fully vaccinated to enter Australia.

Western Australia

Western Australia will not re-open to international travellers today and is holding off until March 3.

The state recently shut itself off from the rest of the country and pursued a strict Covid-zero policy.
