Passengers on flights across Europe can expect delays of five hours or longer today as air traffic controllers in France enter their second day of industrial action and are joined by members of the European Transport Workers Federation in Belgium, Slovakia and Hungary – but the third day of planned industrial action for tomorrow, Thursday 13th June, has been postponed. 
The French air traffic controllers claim that plans for a Single European Sky, intended to cut travel times and costs, will adversely affect their working conditions and result in job cuts. However, Tony Tyler, Director General of IATA, claimed that their fears were unfounded. “Our blueprint report shows that the Single European Sky is a win-win proposition. Reducing delays, cutting emissions, and raising safety levels will create 320,000 jobs across Europe.”
Aer Lingus has cancelled today’s EI522/523 and EI524/525 return flights from Dublin to Paris, but all other ALT flights to and from France are scheduled to operate. The Ryanair website has an extensive list of flights across Europe that have been cancelled today.
