Flights to and from Germany Disrupted by Airport Workers’ Strike

Passengers flying to and from Germany today are expected to encounter significant delays and disruption, with many flights set to be either delayed or cancelled due to a 1-day strike by airport staff nationwide.

The strike has been taken by the Verdi trade union, which is looking for improved pay conditions for its members.

The 1-day staff has seen security staff down tools at the airports in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Leipzig, Cologne, Hanover, Dresden, Erfurt, Dusseldorf and Berlin.

Understandably, departing flights are more affected than those arriving, but arrivals may be delayed also. All departing flights from Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover and Stuttgart have been cancelled today, while a third of the flights due to leave Dusseldorf were canned.
