The EU Commission is expected to issue the long-awaited draft on a revised Package Travel Directive, possibly in July. Currently the Directive covers items such as brochure content, customer information, contract terms, protection for consumers in the event of default by a supplier, and repatriation.
However, many trade sources feel that the Directive as it currently stands has many faults. With this in mind the European Commission is moving ahead with revisions to the Directive, involving the Inter Service Consultation, which is the final stage of the Commission’s internal editing process.
The European Parliament will not begin to examine these measures until September of this year. Watch this space!
