EU bans Russian aircraft in latest sanctions

The European Union has imposed a ban on Russian planes in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

All planes from Russia will now be unable to land in, take off from or fly over any European Union nation.

Ahead of the decision, European countries had already begun closing their airspace.

Airlines

In Asia, Singapore Airlines said on Monday it was suspending all services to and from Moscow until further notice for “operational reasons”.

Finnair has suspended its flights in Russian airspace for one week. This is in addition to Finnair suspending all operations in Ukraine.

KLM has also suspended its services to Kyiv (Ukraine) following the closure of Ukrainian airspace.
