EU Bans Airport X-Ray Body Scanners

The European Union has issued a ruling that bans X-ray body scanners in all European airports. The European Commission said that the prohibition is necessary “in order not to risk jeopardising citizens’ health and safety.”

European airports will use millimeter-wave scanners that utilise low-energy radio waves, rather than the X-ray body scanners, which use ‘backscatter’ ionised radiation technology. Both types of scanner are currently used in the USA.
