The European Commission has given the green light to CityJet’s merger with Spanish regional airline Air Nostrum.
Brussels had initially granted approval in 2019, but later requested a re-submitting of documentation after the deal was put on hold due to the Covid disruption.
CityJet is owned by US-based Fortress Investment Group, while aircraft lessor AIV (Air Investment Valencia) owns Air Nostrum.
The EC said it had no competition concerns from the two carriers merging.
CityJet provides wet lease services for SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Air Nostrum flies for Iberia Regional and Brussels Airlines.
The deal will see both CityJet and Air Nostrum continue under their own existing brands under a new holding company, with the prospect of other airlines joining the company.
