For a record-setting eighth consecutive year, Emirates ‘ice’ inflight entertainment system has been awarded the ‘World’s Best Airline Inflight Entertainment’ award at the 2012 Skytrax World Airline Awards. The awards are based on voting by over 18 million airline passengers from 100 different nationalities.
Emirates’ ice Digital Widescreen (‘ice’ stands for information, communications and entertainment), offers a choice of over 1,400 channels of entertainment, including up to 300 movies from around the world, hundreds of TV choices and thousands of music tracks from contemporary to classical. In March the airline introduced a new Graphical User Interface that makes content and system features easier to navigate via a ‘swiping’ or ‘scrolling’ functionality.
Passengers aboard Emirates’ new Boeing 777 aircraft are now able to enjoy the ice system on larger personal TV screens with high definition (HD) resolution: 27” in First Class, 20” in Business Class, and 12.1” in Economy Class, making the latter the biggest in the world.
“Since becoming the first airline to install TVs in every seat on every aircraft back in 1992, Emirates has focused on continually investing in and improving our inflight entertainment experience for our passengers,” said Patrick Brannelly, Emirates’ Vice President Corporate Communications Product, Publishing, Digital & Events. “To receive the prestigious Skytrax ‘World’s Best Airline Inflight Entertainment’ award for the eighth year in a row is not only a testament to our efforts but illustrates our passengers’ appreciation of our ice system – that is the true reward for us. We would like to thank our loyal passengers for choosing Emirates again this year and, as always, we welcome their input and feedback on how we can continue to improve our offerings to ensure they have the best entertainment experience in the air.”
