
Promotional Event on Pompeii and the Campania Region
On Thursday 12th February 2026, Lorraine Hales and Zoe Walsh from ITTN attended the PROMOTIONAL EVENT ON POMPEII AND THE CAMPANIA REGION: CULTURAL AND TOURIST DESTINATION FOR THE IRISH PUBLIC to celebrate the signing ceremony of the Twinning Pact between the Cities of Pompeii and Dublin.



This promotional initiative, was organized by the Embassy of Italy in Ireland, the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT), the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Italian-Irish Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pompeii and the Campania Region, with the aim of strengthening and enhancing the relations between Pompeii and Dublin in the fields of tourism and culture. The Twinning Pact seeks to encourage cultural and educational exchanges between the scholastic institutes of the two cities, promote the sharing of good practices in the tourism sector, and foster joint initiatives for the enhancement of their respective cultural heritages, with the goal of establishing a stable and lasting partnership.
The event began with institutional greetings from the organisers, who introduced Nicola Faganello, Ambassador of Italy to Ireland . He warmly welcomed everyone to the event and he gave tribute to the Late Mayor of Italy Caminello Salvia who died in December – Caminello Salvia was responsible for starting, promoting and advancing this initiative until just a few months ago and without his passion his vision and his personal commitment this project would not have been possible.
He also recalled the important role played by The former ambassador of Ireland to Rome Patricia O’Brien who was unable to attend the event but had supported and promoted the project from the beginning.
This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Professor Lynda Mulvin, from the School of Art History and Cultural Policy at University College Dublin, Dr. Mario Muscariello, International Affairs Adviser to the Mayor of Pompeii and Ferdinando d’Agostino, architect, expert in architectural heritage and cultural tourism and officer at Campania Region – Department of Tourism. Their contributions focused on the role of Pompeii and the Campania Region as tourist and cultural destinations for the Irish public.
All in attendance were enthralled by the captivating musical performance by the soprano Singer Concetta Peppere Musical Conservatory of Salerno. accompanied by Maya Elliot – promoting symbolic Italy – Ireland Harmony.
The event concluded with a display of promotional material within the premises of the Italian Institute of Culture, and a reception with fantastic selection of Italian culinary delicacies and drinks reception as well as a photo opportunity for all.
Approximately 60 guests were in attendance at the event at the Italian Institute of Culture including Irish authorities responsible for tourism and culture, economic operators, university professors and students in archeology and disciplines related to artistic and cultural heritage in Ireland along with some familiar faces from travel trade and media.
