Almost 2.9 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport last month, a 9% increase over last year, making it the busiest August ever in the airport’s history.
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe increased by 8% with more than 1.5 million passengers travelling to European destinations during the month.
Over 926,000 passengers travelled to UK destinations in August, which was an increase of 13% compared to last year.
Transatlantic traffic to North America increased by 6% with almost 339,000 passengers travelling on this route sector last month. Traffic to other international destinations, which covers flights to the Middle East and Africa, declined by 4%. More than 83,000 passengers travelled on these routes during August.
Passenger numbers on domestic routes increased by 18% with over 10,000 travelling on domestic flights last month.
The number of passengers using Dublin Airport as a hub to connect to another destination is up 14% in the first eight months of the year, with almost 707,000 passengers connecting through Dublin Airport in that time.
So far this year, more than 18.8 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport, a 12% increase compared to the same period last year.
During the first eight months of this year, Dublin Airport has welcomed an additional two million passengers.
