Daa Applies for Dublin Airport Passenger Cap Boost to 36 Million People as Short-Term Solution

Daa has formally applied to increase the passenger cap at Dublin Airport to 36 million people per year.

The current, controversial, passenger limit at the country’s main airport is 32 million per year – a total which is already comfortably being exceeded.

Ultimately, Daa – which is the operator of both Dublin and Cork airports – is looking to boost annual passenger capacity at Dublin Airport to 40 million people, and has lodged a separate planning application in that regard. That plan, however, will be reliant on significant extensions to the airport’s current two terminal buildings.

This new planning application – made to Fingal County Council – however, would involve no building work at all and would better utilise existing space at the airport. Daa said, because of the lack of construction work, this submission could move swiftly through the planning process and could provide a short-term solution to the passenger cap problem.
